If your 6 X 48 belt sander is like mine, the tension is set automatically when you mount a new belt. To center the running belt, there is an adjustment wheel on the side. Yes, I am talking about the carriage, not the headstock. Cutting the threaded rod and getting a grip on it to try and back each half out of the carriage--that's what some of you are suggesting, and what suggests itself to me. I too am really glad to see this forum appear. I needed it!
I bought my Shopsmith Mark V back in 1980, I think, and have used it extensively. I hate to think of what I would do without its versatile capabilities.
