Reible - Thanks for the pictures. I think that's what I'll try.
You've all provided great help - thanks!

Yes, the small size of the 500 table is part of what makes it so difficult to keep things aligned, especially with the table tilted. The miter gauge would be off the front of the table which adds to the complications. I'm beginning to think that trying it on a jointer might be a better way to go. Th...

Reible - Am I understanding your suggestion correctly? Use an extension on the miter guage with the miter set at 90 degrees? Using a stop block or a clamp on the down side could eliminate the need for using the rip fence at all. If you were talking about setting the miter guage to 45 degrees, I don'...

Thanks for the ideas so far. I've extended the quill but the table still hits the lower saw guard before it gets to 45 degrees. I've tried to force it but it only gets to about 40 degrees. I don't have the Mark VII extension that's shown in the pictures. The Shopsmith I have is a Mark V, model 500. ...

Bevel Ripping
I usually try to avoid making bevel cuts with my Shopsmith because I find it hard to keep everything where it ought to be on a tilted table. However, my current project calls for several boards to be ripped with a 45 degree bevel along the edge. I was messing around with getting it set up today and ...

Thanks everyone. I'm using the SS blade recommended for resawing so I think the tpi should be right. The table is 90 degrees to the blade and I'm feeding the work very slowly. I use cool blocks and I noticed one of the lower ones wasn't square so I think I've fixed that. We'll see what happens after...

Bandsaw Problem
I am having problems resawing with my Shopsmith bandsaw. I am using a Shopsmith 5/8 blade and it is set to the proper tension according to the scale. Here's what happened most recently. I am attempting to resaw a 2x6 piece of walnut roughly down the middle. I attached a board to the bandsaw fence to...

Not sure what kind of 500 - it's gray and I got it new in '93. I followed the directions in the book. First I checked that the top of the table was level with the top of the main table. My current problem involves holding a straight edge against the fronts of both tables. I get them even, and when I...

Auxillary Table Alignment
I had been experiencinmg some poor quality cuts on my model 500 lately so I decided it was time to clean the blade and go through all the alignment/adjustment steps again. I probably let this go longer than I should have:( I've gotten everything where I want it but can't keep the auxillary table ali...
