Biscuit Jointer

I'm still using a desk and bookcase that I built in an early 50's woodshop class and it was put together butt joints and hot glue but I don't want to go back to that. I use biscuits and a Ryobi biscuit jointer that I've had for a long time. Incidently, I used some brads the other day and they show t...

Maintenance Question

I had that exact same question just a few months ago. I am not an expert just recently experienced with the same challenge. I too asked for guidance from the Users Group. Here is what I concluded from the advice given. Dig out the operators manual and read it, read the maintenance section very well....

Portable Wooden Tool Box

You ask, what is Oregon - Oregon Pine cut from douglas fir (a common source of pine cones used for seasonal decorations). Harvested primarily in the northwest. Relatively straight grained, easy to work. Warps badly if not cured. Gums up a good blade very fast.

Main Table Ribbing

Thanks to everyone for their contributions to this thread. The entire series of posts has been most helpful. I should have been a bit more patient though. I read the posts this morning and when I got out in the shop I decided to check something I read rather than start another Christmas gift. Someon...

Main Table Ribbing

I have to quit reading these posts. Each one causes me to find something else that seems to need attention. I have Christmas presents to build and there isn't enough time to be fooling around on this computer...at least that is what I have been told by "the supreme authority in this household&q...

Cleaning the Quill

I believe that I would do what is recommended in my manual.....after I made absolutely certain that I had the correct manual.

Obviously, there are some changes that have occurred that most of us know nothing about.

It is now that we need an authoritative input.

Nick...what say you???

Saw Blade

Whatever blade you chose, care for it and it will serve you better than if you use and abuse it. Keep it sharp, whatever you use. If too inexpensive to justify the cost of sharpening, discard it and buy another. A dull blade in any tool is a dangerous blade...believe me - I know. If given a choice, ...

Speed Control and Frightening Noises

I had something happen today that has not happened since I got my SS in the late 80s. I had been cleaning and lubricating my 510. It was all closed up and ready to back into service. I turned it on and ran it through a speed change from low to high speed. I was very near the top speed when suddenly ...

Cleaning the Quill

I'm not exactly a newbie but I certainly feel like one from time to time. This time we are discussing cleaning and lubricating (the quill). I've gone to the book (something I've often been accused of NOT doing) and I do not find anything about lubrication of the quill. All I ever do to the quill is ...
