Re: Tailstock vertical or not

Leave the wedges in during the drilling operation if I am understanding you correctly. I'll be giving that a try. Thanks.

Re: Tailstock vertical or not

I apologize for my slow response to you assistance--other projects have taken priority I think Ed's response probably is my answer and will be taken the next time I'm drilling pen blanks. I need to preload the flex in the tailstock when doing the alignment. I haven't been taking that into considerat...

Tailstock vertical or not

I have a SS 520 and recently I have been having problems horizontal boring pen blanks. I have adjusted the tailstock to lineup as perfectly as I can get it using a pen mandrel and a mandrel saver. Problem is when drilling, with drill chuck in the headsotck, the hole is centered going into the pen bl...

Re: saw stop

Regards to Farmers comment about saw cuts in miter-gauge: It can happen because, unfortnately, I have accomplished it. Tilt the table to the right at 45 degrees, blade height set for a deep cut, and the miter-gauge in the left miter-slot set for a 90 degree cut and you get all kinds of aluminum shav...

Re: Blades for Bandsaw Model # 505641

I just put on a Bosch 1/4" 72 1/2" blade this past week. I tracks fine but I really had to adjust the rip fence for drift--more so than with any other blades. Though I'm pretty sure I have used a Bosch in the past without this much drift. Fence had to be adjusted (cocked) to the left as yo...

If in doubt, use toxic wood precautions. Can't go wrong.

Re: Headstock heat?

Excessive quill pressure to drive in the drive spur into the wood and against the tailstock will result in more heat buildup. Procedure is to drive the drive spur in with a non-metal mallet or precut grooves in the end of the turning stock for the drive spurs to seat in, place work piece between the...
