home made lathe

James.Miller is correct about the type of motor to use with the electric speed reducers. I have made enquiries to the distributors of these items and they are designed to work with the motors with brushes such as router or drill motors.

home made lathe

I am new to the turning aspect of woodworking. But it seems to me that the arbor or shaft of the motor turning at 3750 RPM could be a little dangerous if not impractical. And of course you will be limited to what you can do for projects. Should you not have the lathe center driven by a shaft running...

bandsaw verses scroll saw

reible is right about the ability of the band saw. Haveing said that, you realy need tolook at what you want to do for a project and what tool would be best suited. My thoughts are that the fret saw or scroll saw would be best suited for miniature furniture. I think that reglueing the saw kerf in a ...

o lead bandsaw blades

I am not familiar with this new fence you are talking about but as far as "0 lead blades" are concerned, there are probably maneymanufactures that can ship you a brand new blade that will not track the first time or two you use it. However increased use especialy in hardwoods will dull the...

sharpening guide

The instructions do state to lower the table as apposed to moveing the quil forword. This I did. Also I kept the table level at first so this is not my problem with over sharpened ends. I only tilted the table 4 degrees after seeing that I was not sharpening the entire surface of the cutting edge, I...

sharpening guide

Hi dustywooworker; You are right about the positioning of the table and your stance at the and of the ShopSmith. This was my tecnique. It allows one single motion across the disc. I will keep practicing and let you all know what I have found to be my wronge doing. I am just wondering what I am going...

sharpening guide

What a great response. I really appreciate the advice and ideas. The fence must be used, not feather boards. The guide is about 12" long with three replaceable plastic inserts on it's back side that run up against the fence. There is always at least two plastic discs in contact at any one time ...

jointer/planer knife sharpening guide

Hi Hal; Thanks for the reply. The differance in measurement of the width at the ends of the blade compared to the center of the blade is 0.5 mm not a big difference. But just to eyeball the blade, it looks realy bad. I had considered sharpening the knives for a little extra pocket change ( to buy mo...

jointer/planer knife sharpening guide

Hi every one; I recently purchased the sharpening guide and have attempted to sharpen 12" planer knives and 6" jointer knives. I was careful to put equal pressure on the fence and table top with the guide to make sure it was fed into the conj. disc in a straight maner. However, the ends of...
