Re: MarkV or MkVII dedicated drill press
That is a good trick. Always a few extra 2X4s around.

Re: MarkV or MkVII dedicated drill press
I don't know as muh about the MK VII as I thought. I thought it was manufactured by SS inc a decade or so before the MK 7. I read in another post it was manufactured in the 60s and 70s by another company and absolutely not supported at all by SS. I will send it on to a new home.

Re: Running Motor off carriage
MK VII is the same I assume. On a towel on the floor, so I just need to wedge it or something.

MarkV or MkVII dedicated drill press
One of my shopsmiths is soon to be a dedicated drill press with short bench tubes and head stock reversed. I will have the tubes cut next week. I was originally planning on my MK V. That is the machine I have used in the past and it works pretty well. It also seems SS is not really supporting the sh...

Running Motor off carriage
This may seem like a dumb question, but is there any danger in running the motor when it is removed from the carriage?
There are obvious precautions necessary for personal safety, but I am concerned with damaging the power head.

Re: Drill Press only shorty
SO, something similar to as seen in the following thread is what I am thinking: https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/general-woodworking-f5/time-to-plan-the-shorty-shopsmith-t18764-s10.html I will never want to run the table saw or the lathe again, so that isn't a concern. Maybe one of the sander SPTs...

Re: Drill Press only shorty
Option one, and ost likely, is DP only vertical mode, so only shortening bench tubes. Mounting to a wall is not an option. DP is the last operation I perform with my SS. Everything else I have a dedicated machine available. A company I have confidence in may be releasing a bench-top VS DP similar to...

Re: Cutting Metal with Shopsmith MK V and Speed reducer
Specifically require vertical band saw. I could rig a decent portable to a horizontal fairly cheap. I think there are a few that come as kits. The more I look into and think about this, the less likely it seems the SS will work for metal. I had not thought about the metal chips embedding. That would...
