A question; are the tubes on the ER and the 500/510 table the same diameter?

Thanks!

You may have some trouble mounting and driving SPT's in the left power mount with a standard power coupler while the worktable carriage is in place. I do not think you will get sufficient spacing to for the power coupler. You are correct SDSSmith. I may take the carriage assembly off; build an MDF ...

Whole lot of shortening going on!

When I bought my original 86 model 510 a few years ago it had been stored in an open shed and the Way Tubes were incredibly rusty and pitted. I managed to restore the Bench Tubes but bought replacements for the Way Tubes. A few weeks ago I found this 82 model 500 in incredibly good condition and pri...

Another quill question??

As in another post I recently bought a very nice '82 model. I have a spare double bearing quill assembly but the main spindle is badly bent. Shopsmith at one time listed this spindle assembly as Part No. 514066. But it looks as though they no longer list this as a separate item. Can anyone tell me i...

Considering buying a 1982 500. Advise please?

Bought it! A very happy camper. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s204/debewley/P1020347.jpg I haven't done a thing to it yet except reassembled after transport. Came with a unused dado set and insert and unused 5 pc lathe set. And 6 unused sanding disc. The guy said that he'd bought it new and use...

Exactly, the drawers I made also came from a bookshelf they had thrown away. Most of it was 3/4" birch plywood.

Those are 1X3" channel aluminum. They were actually part of a portable wall partition they were getting ready to throw in the dumpster at work.

On-board storage added to SS w/pics

I posted this as an addendum to another post of mine in The M & R section but will add it here also. I added some on-board storage to the SS as below: The box to the left is for Lathe Accessories. it contains my tail stock, tool rest, centers, and an old set of chisels my father left me twenty y...

Onboard Storage Added

Since I last posted I've added some on board storage for tools and accessories. The box to the left is for Lathe Accessories. it contains my tail stock, tool rest, centers, and an old set of chisels my father left me twenty years ago. In the center is a box to hold my drill press accessories. It con...
