Re: Mark 5 Greenie 1954 Refurbish

Wow! Beautiful job. I also have a 1954 greenie I purchased from a neighbor who lost a couple fingers. So, I've been very apprehensive to use it and eventually purchased a newer 510 with a saw guard that I am starting to use. Long story short, I now want to restore that greenie and you have inspired ...

Re: Cutting plywood

Thank you for the Kreg jig tip. Much simpler than risking balancing a 3/4 full sheet of plywood on my Shopsmith. I need to rip a full sheet into 4 inch strips. I then am going to cut a 45 degree edge on each strip, not sure if the Kreg jig can do that, but it would be much easier on the Shopsmith at...

Re: Quill adv. mech. removal trouble

DSC_1788.jpg Here is a little bigger view of the problem area. I think you are right, the woodruff key is a little high, (although I have never really looked at this area of the Shopsmith) I saw a sawdust session where Nick Engler said that the woodruff key was actually part of shaft post 1960's, s...

Hello, I am attempting a total teardown a 1970's headstock and cannot remove the quill advance mechanism. It appears that the woodruff key is blocking the removal and I cannot get the domed washer over the top of the key. Any advice? Thank you.

Re: Remove motor sheave?

Thanks JPG, now I have to ask (maybe another) stupid question. If I were to follow your good advice, what kind of retaining ring and where exactly would it go? The retaining ring at the end of the shaft has a specific groove machined into the shaft.

Re: Remove motor sheave?

$matches[2] $matches[2] I think I replied too soon. JPG, I didn't see your post until I searched for it. I'll have to adjust my forum settings. If I understand correctly, the fan sheave as well as the spacer has been damaged. Here are a couple more pictures. I was hoping to get a new spacer-and now...
