Re: Sawsmith RAS speed control question
There's a small set screw on the speed control knob. Tighten yours and see if that helps. You may need to readjust it a second time to get your speed indicator positioned correctly.

Re: Tap tap tap... Is this thing on?
I also followed a Woodsmith plan but made the headboard an inch taller, the width about 2.5" narrower, and the length 1" longer than the plans indicated. The wood came from a cherry tree that I cut and milled in 2015 with my chainsaw mill. For fun, most of the crosscutting/ripping/tenoning...

Re: Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
Thanks guys. The wall cabinet did take some time but that's part of the fun, right? It was built using my Shopsmith 510, Sawsmith, and a small homemade CNC machine which was also made with my Shopsmith. The payback happens every time I can quickly locate an item stored in the drawers or scrawl somet...

Re: Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
Thought I'd share some of my efforts with you all in case they are helpful or make you think of something better. The bench below started as a repurposed metal shelving unit. It was an experiment but I decided to keep it. The table top is a solid core door split in two. The metal frames were clad wi...

Re: paint
This may be an old thread but do consider trying Rust-Oleum Anodized Bronze semi-gloss enamel. I've found this to be an almost identical match to the color of my ~'64 Magna Sawsmith. I assume Magna shared the same paint between the Mark VII and the Sawsmith.

Re: July 2016 projects
thanks for the info, I know Carvers like it because it is soft and easy workable, my provider, 4/4 rough is 5.14$ a Brd Ft for select, $3.70 for common. How was your pricing? Mine was "free" from the woods beside my house. Given all that's involved with making specialty lumber your dealer...

Re: July 2016 projects
Nice work :) Thanks. I just followed the plans except for the veneered panels. I never used Butternut but my supplier has it, is that Natural or has it been dyed or stained? Try some. If you dig through the pile you might even find some nicely figured stuff. The wood is super soft and fun to use wi...

Re: July 2016 projects
I worked on this mostly over the course of the last two months but completed this month, so I guess that qualifies as a July project. It was a birthday gift to my wife who had asked for a desk for many years. My Shopsmith(s) were used in table saw and bandsaw modes along with many other dedicated to...
