Re: Table Saw Cutting Funny
Maybe this question will help diagnosis: Which way is the cut curving? Convex to the left or to the right? Does it happen consistently? Does the same thing happen on a crosscut? Put a straightedge on your saw blade and on your fence. Finally, wood will move. Cutting it can release stresses, so your ...

Re: Speed dial handle
I think the tiny handle acts as a welcome force-limiter. Would applying too much force to the handle be akin to turning the handle without the motor spinning? The tiny handle might also make it easier to tell when the innards need to be lubricated.

Re: Glue-joining of Cutoff Pieces for Lumber Recovery
You ask, "is it worth the time and effort?" I think the answer is clearly, no. But, is that really the measure? Most of us are woodworking as a hobby, not as a profession. It's fun to accept a challenge and succeed--or fail. Who cares if it's worth it? Personally, I would probably be frust...

Re: Check Your Belt Sander Platten Screws
Chapmanruss, I just made that discovery--about 6 hours after you posted. For you, and any other Shopsmith archeologists, my printed manual from 6/82 shows the doubled-up washers. They were item #29 on the parts drawing. The current drawing on the website skips #29. I was scratching my head over why ...

Re: bandsaw stalling
What's moving, and what isn't?
So, the blade stops moving. Does the power coupler stop rotating? How about the quill end? Is the blade slipping on the bandsaw wheels?

Re: Check Your Belt Sander Platten Screws
You made me check.
One screw was finger-loose. All the rest could use a good tightening. Most concerning of all was that I discovered I was missing three of the 12 washers the platten sits on, so my platten wasn't sitting flat or square. What kinds of problems had that caused me?

Twisted sanding strips
My newest 42" sanding strips have twisted themselves all up. I can get them untwisted so they'll mount on the strip sander, but then they twist themselves after demounting. Is there a way of untwisting them so that they'll stay that way?

Re: table alignment
If your table aligned, I can see not drilling out the hole. My mid-90s production 510 (bought second-hand but never out of the box) wouldn't align. I'm not sure I'd read about this issue before I decided to enlarge the hole. I used a file.

Re: Cordless Power Tool Battery Prices
I'm in the same position. I've also been looking at Milwaukee batteries. I bought into the Milwaukee line a few years ago, and now I figure I bought a higher-end product than I actually needed. Regardless of whether Milwaukee tools are really better than the others, they've succeeded in marketing th...

Re: battery powered lawn mower
I might have the record here. I bought my B&D battery mower some time around 2005. I had to replace the batteries a couple of years later, but it's been trouble-free ever since. 24V from two lead-acid batteries. I bought into the Milwaukee brand of cordless tools. I've eyed their new mower, but ...
