Re: Combination Square Woes
A very handy tool to have around the shop is a Wixey digital protractor. Good one to put on the wish list for Xmas. I use it for all kinds of things but one thing it does very well is check the accuracy of squares. I have taken it with me to HD just to check a combo square. I had to go through sever...

Re: making a vertical card holder
Probably the best method would be to use the table saw mode with either the dado head or a wide planer type bade with a wide kerf and move the fence the appropriate distance each time. If you have a router you could build a quick jig to hold the piece at an angle and router the slots. Either way sta...

Re: Sanding wheels tip.
Jig2.jpg Here are some picks of my circle cutting jig. I’m sorry I couldn’t show it attached to the main saw table but I have the lathe rest bolted on. I think you can get the general idea though. The platen with the dowel in it rides in the channel to adjust the diameter and I just use a grabber t...

Re: Anyone dealt with onyx ?
Thanks for the compliment on the cabinetry Dusty. I don't usually take pictures during the fabrication time but I can start ! I get caught up in the process and as they say time goes by. I have been making that style door and drawer fronts for years. Each door requires four different glue ups before...

Re: Anyone dealt with onyx ?
Thanks Ron. Lowes and HD both sell an LED strip system that apparently you can daisy chain together to make the panels. This appeals to me much more than the commercially made panels. When they go out it looks to be an expensive proposition as opposed to using the strips which are actually quite ine...

Re: Jointer Blades
I have tried the magnet method with the SS and have never been able to get a satisfactory setting for the knives. I have a planer pal that I use for the surface planer and used the magnetic bars from it. The magnet method works great if you have an adjustable outfield table but not so well with a fi...

Re: Sanding wheels tip.
Another method that works well on the SS is to make a jig that uses the miter slot clamp from one of the feather boards attached to a piece of plywood with a dowel center for the wheels. You can then clamp the jig to the SS table and use the disc sander to sand them round. Just set the quill stop to...

Re: Anyone dealt with onyx ?
No nothing logistical. I have the onyx available. I think I may have solved the led issue. Several possibilities on them and yes all options seem to be expensive. Roughly $250 per panel. Oh well. I got the carcasses made yesterday so now I will tackle the stone and led issue. The onyx is readily ava...

Anyone dealt with onyx ?
The boss has put in her order for set of beside cabinets with underlit onyx tops. Has anybody ever dealt with onyx before ? I found a local source for the stone. The biggest challenge seems to be the LED panels for the lighting.
