I think that might be the problem, the threads are stripped on the side away from the handle. Is the threaded part (not sure what to call it )a replacement part of would I need a new carriage?

Carriage Lock
Need help !! My carriage lock will not lock ! It turns normally but doesn't tighten up and lock the carriage in place. The carriage just slides freely up and down the shopsmith. Not sure what the problem is. Any help would be much appreciated !!

Hello everyone !! I make natural edge tables using old sewing machine bases as the base and a slab of wood for the top. While out hunting for more bases I ran across this table/base. Not sure ..... The wires from the motor seemed ok. The power cord was a different thing. Everything was melted !! I just replaced the cord, put new connectors on to attach the motor wire to the power cord, replaced the switch and it's all good !!

Thanks everyone for the helpful advise !! I have attached a few pics of the wiring. My plans are the replace the wiring and power cord. Hopefully that takes care of the problem !
