Re: Has anyone used Premium Casters without relocating brackets?
UPDATE : I found some 3" Shepherd casters (PRE-30-273-ZN-MNT) which allow me to get more rolling clearance and did not require moving foot pedal to avoid interference. The key (I think) is the width of caster is 13/16" in lieu of 1-1/4" like the premium casters which Shopsmith offers...

Control Sheave Button Bearing
Yesterday I started getting an unusual sound and vibration in the speed control dial while doing some disk sanding with speed set on "SLOW". I think the button bearing in the end of the control sheave is the culprit. When I looked inside the inspection port, the retaining clip had become u...

The maximum size that a photo can be is also a consideration. If your photo is too large, you'll get a hard to notice error message near the top of the posting page. I forget the exact size limits, but I did find this in a previous thread: "...the "new limit" seems to have been adjust...

Re: Transporting mark 7
Welcome, and fear not, many very knowledgeable people here to help you out, as they have me on numerous occasions. Not much disassembly should be required ... mainly removing the legs. And of course the main table, and any auxiliary table or lathe tailstock. If you don't have to remove the headstock...

There are two fields where "Location" can be entered. The one near the top doesn't seem to work. Enter your location in the field closer to bottom of the form, then hit "Submit".

Re: Speed control stuck
While the motor pieces are apart any good suggestions on what to clean? There is a decent amount of dust build up on the windings so I am thinking a spray of air and vacuum to clean. A good blowing out with compressed air and some careful brushing with an old toothbrush is what I have done several ...

Re: Has anyone used Premium Casters without relocating brackets?
Dusty and Ed, Thanks for the suggestions. I did remove all 4 casters and the metal U-shaped brackets at the tops of 3 out of 4 of the casters are noticeably bent, resulting in the stems not being perpendicular to the brackets. I checked my old casters and none of them show the same bending. I had wo...

Re: Has anyone used Premium Casters without relocating brackets?
Ed, Thanks for the explanation and link to your thread detailing your experience. I now understand much better the potential conflict between the pedal and the top of the caster. My casters may well be bent or something else going on to account for small first step ... I'll have to look at them more...

Re: Has anyone used Premium Casters without relocating brackets?
Keep in mind if you have an older set of casters the levers might be to close and require you to grind the peddles or re-drill to locate the pedals or to add spacer washers to clear the pedals. If you have the newer casters set this is not an issue. I have read similar statements in other posts abo...
