Re: Converting a Pro Planer to a Mark-Mount Planer
"I thought it was spectacular that the guy custom-designs guitars for elite musicians, and then builds them primarily using his ancient Shopsmith 10ER." [/i] You say 'Ancient' - I say 'Still In Service' Leroy Jethro Gibbs Rule 5: "You don't waste good." Shopsmith 10ER.png You wi...

Re: Converting a Pro Planer to a Mark-Mount Planer
Right? The difference between what is made by my DeWalt GWI and Shopsmith 500-turned-510-turned-520-turned-Mark7 with SPTs and what's made by a shop full of new Jet and Powermatic machines is who's using the tools.beeg wrote:Loved that anecdote. Wonder what the naysayers think about that.

Re: Converting a Pro Planer to a Mark-Mount Planer
Remember the ProPlaner has a very heavy cast iron table that makes it difficult to pick up and move. The SPT planer has a lighter stainless steel table. Agreed. I'd gladly switch my aluminum/alloy table in my mountable planer for a cast iron one, but that's at least partially because that, removing...

Re: PowerPro upgrade on eBay this morning
You all really surprise me. I see absolutely no reason why you should doubt the honesty of this ebay seller. I also question the logic of buying this diy kit for an almost new price. Truth be told, I'm a skeptic to a fault, so my reticence toward the seller's statement could be completely off base....

Re: PowerPro upgrade on eBay this morning
I bought my PP full up headstock at a Lowes demo conducted by David Folkerth, John's son. I got the 10% military discount and put it on my Lowes card and got 12 months no interest. Plus I got the demo discount and it was just before Christmas before the prices went up in January. :D :D :D The point...

Re: PowerPro upgrade on eBay this morning
It sold today for $1326 plus shipping. A whopping $323 (19.6%) off of list price. Demo price: $1470. Lowes does a 10% military discount, but they accepted my service-connected disabled vet card for that, making it $1323. 6% tax made it $1402.38. I can't recall exact shipping, but it migh...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Has anyone found any good guidance on what to do about the feed motor if running the powerpro off 220V? I'm planning to switch over to get that extra 1/4hp, but it seems like this would be a problem when it comes to the feed motor. I guess I could just plug the feed motor into a 110V outlet, but I'...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Are we talking about the 110 vdc motor on the side of the ProPlaner. The variable speed motor that drives the ProPlaner feed rollers. If we are - don't plug it into 220vac or you will need about $400 to buy a new feed motor. The on/off switch on the control box switches 110vac to the ProPlaner moto...
