Make sure to use table salt, with the small grains. Kosher salt grains are just too big.

Sorry to chime in on such an inactive thread but I've done this, recently. I've glued up about 15 cutting boards using this technique, and all I have to say, if it survives salt corrosion, this is a winner. All it takes is a very few grains, maybe 15 or less per joint.
