Is the garage floor level? I had a similar problem of twist (tube assy not sitting flat on the base; like OP pic #4) on my MKV. I found that I had it sitting on a non level section of my garage floor. Move the SS to a different part of the garage and the twist went away.
Just a thought.

Re: DeWalt Radial Arm Saw vs Shopsmith
A used 1960's Craftsman RAS was the 1st saw I bought in 1983. I've owned 2 Craftsman and my present Wards Powrkraft. The RAS is still my go-to saw. Here is a fascinatng video about building/ mass producing army camps in WWII with Dewalt radial arm saws. https://youtu.be/HiGH0Qsu3ak?si=-hxAMcVXfGOFJSaR

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
Yes, mine is hard to turn at slow speed also. I usually use 2 hands to turn it.
I also had to shim mine up at the shaft to get the detents to hold . Works great, no problems with speed drift anymore.

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
Looks like a good, simple solution for MKVII's with bad speed cams. Let us know when/if it fails. Hopefully it's a permanent fix.

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
Not against you trying a 3D printed cam but I think your repaired cam looks repaired fairly well. I would take it a step further. I would fill in the recessed area with some JB Weld/epoxy along with some "rebar"(i.e. finish nails, large paper clips) and see how well it holds up

Re: Shapeways Cam for Mark VII
Here is a comment I made recently on another thread that had mentioned the 3D printed cams by shapeways. "Engineering plastics were coming in big in the 60's. Even in car engines, (i.e. timing chain gears and other parts). The trouble is back then they didn't follow best molding practices. Mean...

Re: looking for help pricing a Mark VII to sell
Yeah, I didn't quite "get it" with the Mark VII until I saw a recent video that showed the operation of that rack with both the headstock and table moving together. Definitely wish they had continued pursuing this feature on future generations. Also, it seemed like they overly relied on c...

edma194 said: I'm not sure how useful that rack is for horizontal movement since adjustment can also be made with the quill. The question is its usefulness in drill press mode. Can it lift the weight of the headstock? Is trying to do so the cause of broken racks? I wouldn't trade my rack for the wor...

Re: looking for help pricing a Mark VII to sell
I wouldn't bother with the time, labor and expense getting a replacement rack from ebay unless your planning on keeping the MKVII for yourself because your not going to get more than $300 for it unless it's cleaned up very well and running great with all of the important parts. I would sell it for t...

Re: looking for help pricing a Mark VII to sell
Looks like the plastic speed adj cam is good. That's a plus. I don't see the rip fence. That would be a minus because only a mark VII fence fits on a Mark VII. Make sure you look for that. I would collect any parts that look like it should be with the Shopsmith. Take it out and clean it up a bit. It...
