Here are some photos. I dropped the motor and one of the white wires to the engine broke off. I tried holding the wire (with plastic handled pliers)to where it is supposed to attached and nothing happened.

It is a GE motor. I made sure that the wires are all on. However I did need to reattach the bottom two wires . I did the wires the same so there is a black top wire and a black wire underneath, then a white on top and then a white underneath. I will try and get a picture tomorrow. You referring to ...

Just recently, but it has been sitting for some time I expect. The owner passed away,so not sure as to when before I did it. It looks to be in good shape, and taken care of. All parts turn.

Yes I can manually turn the quill shaft. And yes a hum is a better description. So if the engine is unhooked from machine, it will start, what do I need to do? How do I make the start switch to close the circuit?

No the buzz is where the engine wants turn but the shaft, but does not/cannot. I unhooked the engine and it turns on a runs well. The engine and starter are good. Next step? And thanks!
