Re: Cutting 1/2" acrylic on bandsaw
I ended up getting them all cut out this weekend without much issue. I used a scrap piece of 1/4" plywood as a zci, taped down to the bandsaw table.

Re: Cutting 1/2" acrylic on bandsaw
The same material that I have with the paper still on it is labeled as "Optix by Plaskolite", which is an acrylic product. On the table saw I use a aluminum cutting blade with a negative rake angle, but it still melts and can build up, even with a zero clearance insert. I haven't used this...

Cutting 1/2" acrylic on bandsaw
I'm doing a project right now that involves me making 76 identical L shaped pieces out of 1/2" plexiglass/acrylic, at around 4" x 1" or so. The plexiglass that I have already has the backer paper removed from it as I'm reusing an older piece. When I cut this on the bandsaw, either wit...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
Mark 7 with Free Shipping on ebay for $1500 opening bid. Couple of issues, from the description it says local pickup, it isn't a Mark 7, and you can't really tell what you're getting from the pictures. But at least a 505 with PowerPro, Belt Sander, and Jointer and all looks to be in good condition....

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?
I've discussed it with my wife and she doesn't feel that any of them should use any type of power tool. I'll probably start by teaching them about the hand tools that I have, just need to do some upkeep on them so they work well (remove rust, wax, and sharpen various tools). I'll probably also hand ...

Here's a project 500 they're asking $300 for. Serial 347751. It's a greenie, but been kept in a pole barn so as expected a lot of surface rust.

Re: Shopsmith's new website is up....
I definitely like my grey 520 color scheme, but I wish it had more red trim to complement it. Of stock colors though, I have to say I think the Goldie and the other past variant color are better looking than this gray. Maybe do some pin striping on your 520? Obviously not on the ways, but on the he...

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?
Thank you all for the great feedback. I'm long winded, so this will be a lengthy post. I suppose I should give a bit more background here. I've been building my hobby of woodworking over the years, starting actually before borrowing the MKV from a co-worker back in 2012 to create some nursery furnit...

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?
Yes...I would somewhat be the blind leading the blind, but not quite as bad. I probably have as much qualification as an instructor in a shop class as my middle school shop teacher had, with the exception of the teacher's cert. And by this I am in no way stating that the teacher's cert means nothing...
