Re: Headstock removal and installation
One caution about removing the tie bar. If it's stuck, don't beat on the webbing between the tubes - it's cast aluminum and can crack.

Re: Three Deminsional Eight Pointed Srar
BTW, a pyramid has four faces, but it isn't a "regular" tetrahedron, because its base is a square, not a triangle. I know what you're trying to say. However, a pyramid with a square base is not any kind of tetrahedron because it has five sides, making it a pentahedron. And it is extremely...

Re: Woodworking apron
Packard Woodworks makes an XL turners' apron (goes all the way to the neck) that's good to a 50" waist, if that helps.

Re: Sanding Walnut
If you imagine the wood to be like a microscopic bundle of straws, no matter how much you sand, the ends of the "straws" will still be exposed. If you want a gloss finish, I think you're going to have to fill the grain, either with wood filler or fine sawdust mixed with finish.

Impressive. I can't imagine how to go about making one.

Re: Maintenance under severe use
The two sleeves that you lubricate on the motor and intermediate shafts only slide back and forth as you change speeds, so they shouldn't need any extra lubrication. There's no friction there when the motor is running at a constant speed. Be careful about overdoing the lube so it sprays onto the bel...

Re: JOHNSON PASTE WAX
If you're using it on your machines, I've had a can of Bowling Alley Wax (Butcher's Wax) for decades and it works just fine. I believe it's pretty similar to JPW. For wood finishing, FWW preferred Renaissance wax, a microcrystaline wax that's quite expensive. In tests, it buffed out well and didn't ...

Not to change the subject, but can you recommend anyone who can repair these watches? I have an Accutron Spaceview that has stopped working.

Re: Drought in the West
Here in NJ, we almost have a record in the other direction: this is the second least snowy winter since WW1. And even when we had a snowstorm, it was above freezing during the day and the roads were just wet. Our snow plowing guy, who comes when there's more than 2", has never showed up this ye...

Try running the bare motor without the belt to isolate motor issues.
