Sounds like the Stuart Batty 40/40 grind. Very popular grind but hard to do with a jig.

I have GFCI outlets in my garage. Neither the standard headstock nor the PowerPro tripped the GFCI, but I have a variable speed lathe that did. I switched the outlet to a hospital grade GFCI and that solved the problem.

My guess is that the circular mark was made by a lathe cup turning center.

You are correct, I on the speed dial is supposed to be about 1750 rpm. Beall Tool has many videos on buffing on YouTube or through the Beall website.
