Thanks for the drill bit suggestion.
and JPG: It was the only post at 3:49 which did equal #8. I'll look more closely next time. :)

kableri, The reason for the offset on the bandsaw was so you could tilt to the vertical drilling position without it hitting the bandsaw table. However I have read here on the forum somewhere that if you tilt the bandsaw table to the max it will just clear. I may have to look into that. Regards, Dwi...

Forrest, I tried the configuration you are talking about but could not extend the quill far enough to make the coupling. I see two causes for this: 1) I have the offset tubes mounted on the bandsaw and 2) I have the lift assist installed which takes up a lot of lateral movement for the headstock/car...

I have used that method and it works well for 7 mm tubes. If sanding larger diameter pen tubes you will need to mount the tubes with bushings of the correct size. Works fine but takes a bit longer to set up is all.

What you posted at 3:49 yesterday is the setup I use and have found to be the best at getting centered holes in a pen blank for me. I just finished a run of 27 pens using the above methold with great results. I have found that 7 mm bits can wander in hardwood blanks with crazy grain running through ...

Another on-line location for pens is: http://www.woodturningz.com/Pen_Kits.html They have a number of the same pens, but not all, as Penn State at a reduced price along with some unique pens of their own. Also have nice acrylic and wood blanks. They ship priority mail and you'll get your order in ju...

Chris, Happy you are doing fine. I had an ablation done when I was in the 50 year old range (now 65) but I was only worked on for a couple of hours and as an out patient procedure. I'm guessing my problem was very different from yours but the 220 beats per minute was very much the same. I have been ...

I'll agree it is mounted on a "specially lathe" but having a relatively new all wheel drive tractor retired to a museum seems to be a stretch (I did not see a picture of it at the web-site). As far as gearing goes--put the transmission in "ole grandma (1st gear)" and at idle ther...

Great idea

In my recent pen making project I have been moving the quill often either during drilling the blanks or positioning the pen mandrel. I frequently would find the handle in my way during turning. This quick index handle is the answer. I ordered the "deluxe" version so I have the option on bo...

That is what is so nice about creating your own stuff--you can tailor it to your needs. To bad you only had a change to make a few scribbles and write your name a few times before your friend got hold of it. Good excuse to make another though. Nice job.
