Re: Urethane bandsaw tires split at weld while installing
Thanks guys - I ordered a new set from the MS. What arrived was in the same packaging and looked the same as the set that fell apart, except they we're far more pliable. I'll chalk this up to me buying an old set that had probably been left in extreme heat and deteriated like all plastics will. New ...

Re: Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
Thanks Bill -- I've never really used MDF and from what I read it seems like it's not something I really want in my shop or around my tools - appreciate your tip !! So -- here is where I'm at so far. I've built a few face frame free-standing cabinets for the wife and I generally like their classic a...

Re: Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
I vote both as well, but to add a wrinkle, putting everything behind nice doors and have either pull out trays or shelves leaves your options wide open. I prefer trays because it lets you get to the back easier than shelves but you don't fight the sides of a deep drawer and still have the advantage...

Re: Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
Thanks Ben -- I had considered doing the same thing actually and decided to build instead, simply because I want my bench to be custom to my shop and my needs. What I can't decide is if all the extra effort for drawers will be worth it :-) I do agree though that buying used cabinets from a remodel i...

Shop cabinets - drawers vs doors/shelves
I have a 20' section of wall in my garage/shop that I'm going to build a set of cabinets and a workbench on. Will have both lower and upper cabinets. A quick poll out there to see who uses doors and shelves, who likes all drawers, and who uses a combination of the two in their shops for the lower ca...

Re: Optimum Sled Size for Shopsmith
Yes I agree with both of you - dusty, dog house is planned just not yet implemented. I figured this sled should handle most of the cross cuts I do today, and if/when I need to go larger I'll simply make another one. Already determined that I'll need another one for when the table is tilted 45 degree...

Re: Optimum Sled Size for Shopsmith
After viewing this thread I decided it was time to build my first tablesaw sled. Using instructions from William Ng and tips from this thread relative to Shopsmith, I found what scraps I had in the shop and here is what I ended up with ... 24"w x 18"d, saw kerf offset 1" to the right ...

Re: Urethane bandsaw tires split at weld while installing
I will say that they came in official Shopsmith packaging and appear to be the real thing, I think they were just bent under pressure for too long out in the heat of the shop. Here is the photo from the eBay listing I bought them from, and thats exactly what they looked like when I got them ... (sor...

Urethane bandsaw tires split at weld while installing
So - I'll start by saying I bought a pair official and new in package shopsmith part numbed urethane tires off of eBay a few months ago. Not sure how old they are. Sat in my shop for probably 4 months now. Finally got around to getting the old rubber tires off -- that was absolutely no fun and I wen...
