Re: Hans Goldschmidt's file tidbits
Thankyou so very much, Everett for every bit of your caring and dedication to this history project. It is also very nice to hear of the wiling help you have received from the staff of Shopsmith Inc. in Dayton. Your efforts have already been a great mental uplift for me (and maybe others) that have b...

Re: I need some assistance!
I agree French cleats are the only way to go. But you will need your machine to make them. If you have 8 foot ceilings and Ed is right about the top of your cabinets, then there would be difficulty lifting over a cleat.
Hope your ceilings are 9 ft.

This site has lots of information on set ups and use of your Shopsmith. If you wish to physically meet with someone (hands on), you need to tell the location in the world where you live.

Re: Dado not cutting properly
Bill is correct. They made dado stacks that way for many years. In my fathers shop in the 50’s and 60’s that was all there was and I believe it was for glue relief. I can remember having to clean them up with a rabbet plane. It was very annoying. We could not use routers back then because they were...

Re: Dado not cutting properly
Wow! this is a surprise!
Before you buy a new set, look around your all your Dad's stuff. You may find some new cutters or chippers. Maybe during the inheritance moving process the chippers (or cutters) were mistakenly put together in this set.

Re: Depth control on drill press keeps changing.
Seems we are forgetting the possibility of the drill bit slipping in the chuck. Although maybe not necessary, I will remind of the best drill chuck procedure: - after making sure the drill bit is centered in the chuck, hand tighten the chuck - using the chuck key, lightly tighten the chuck in one of...

Re: Jointer vibration/chatter
The blades may indeed be the chatter issue. But since the chatter vibrations caused the coupler to loosen - I recommend checking the cutter head bearings.
