Re: SS height
The problem is that other woodworking machines tend to be lower than lathes. With standalone machines, table saws typically run around 10 inches lower than lathes. If you raise the SS lathe, you may find it too high for other functions. As RF says, it's a compromise.

Re: Miter saw mounted to adjustable table?
Would you plan to lock the table and leave it in one place, or do you plan to use the table height adjustment to raise and lower the saw (not sure why you'd want to do that)? If the table is fixed, the weight will be borne by the table height lock rather than the pinions. When you remove a headstock...

Re: Mouse pad platform for chair arm.
That's a nice idea. I also prefer a cordless mouse to a touch-pad. I'm a two-finger typist, but my wife touch types and kept complaining that the pointer would sometimes jump around at random. It was traced to her accidentally tapping the touch pad with her hand while typing, so we've disabled the t...

Re: Rate of Air Flow vs Volume of Air Flow
P.S. Just wanted to point out again that the original DC-3300 was spec'ed as a 0.5HP dust collector with a motor that draws 8A and has a 4 blade fan impeller. The DC-3300 upgrade/DC-6000 is listed as a 1.5HP dust collector with a motor that draws 8A and has a new 6 blade fan impeller. These are str...

Re: DC6000 vs. DC3300 vs. other options?
Generally, you almost always want to do any size reductions at the tool, not at the DC. So if you have a 2 1/2" dust port, you should remove the manifold as RF suggests, run a 4" duct to the tool, then use a reducer at the end of the duct. Use as little flex duct as possible - it's an airf...

Re: Cordless Power Tool Battery Prices
... Cordless tool batteries are NOT subsidizing the cost of cordless tools. I agree. Many cordless tools are available as "tool only" - no battery, for people who already have enough batteries and chargers for the system and are willing to swap batteries between tools. Subsidizing the too...

Regarding the Zoom Spout Oiler...a Google search took me to two Amazon listings for "Zoom Spout Oiler", one of which is for an empty bottle, and the other is a very similar bottle filled with sewing machine oil. Is the sewing machine oil acceptable for the Shopsmith? Or do I go with the e...

... I managed to pull the four wires off the switch and now don't know which one goes where. Can anyone help? Not off the top of my head, and it may vary depending on which motor you have. All I can tell you is double-check and make sure you hook them up right - I smoked a motor hooking them up wro...

Re: SC Johnson Paste Wax
I have a can of Butchers Wax, aka Bowling Alley Wax that I bought at an old Channel Lumber store in the late 70's, and it's still good. I've used about 2/3 of it in the 45 years or so it's hung about my basement. Amazon sells it for about $30 for a 1 lb tin - I paid $5.69 for mine (the price sticker...
