Re: Best general purpose table saw blade for a newbie

Sehast...thanks for the suggestion about "thin kerf". I have been surprised at the size of the kerf on my current blade.....it seems to take a lot of wood with it!

Best general purpose table saw blade for a newbie

I'm a learner.....most of my "indoor woodworking" skills were obtained in shop class about 50 years ago. I have a Mark V 500. As I'm a newbie, is there a brand, size and type of table saw blade that might be best for me to use for most of my work? Here's my situation: Most of my woodworkin...

Re: Dust collector on V 500 table saw - BLEAH!?

In answer to the question "what kind of sawguard assembly", I just learned from searching this thread that I have an assembly form the mid 80's that has only a 1 1/4" hose attachment, and there is a lower sawguard upgrade available (#55294 - 500) which I am now looking for!

thanks all!

Re: Dust collector on V 500 table saw - BLEAH!?

Thanks for the responses, and Brenda, yes, I will now search the whole thread for suggestions. It is actually helpful to know that my problem is not unique and related to me doing something WRONG! I have several ideas already thanks to the suggestions and photos!

Re: Dust collector on V 500 table saw - BLEAH!?

One more piece of data. I was using just the standard insert which is about 1/2 - 3/4 " wide....not the zero clearance insert.

Dust collector on V 500 table saw - BLEAH!?

OK....my shop is finally wired, tools on the wall, accessories mounted in home built stations, AND shop vac with cyclone seems to be working great, and shopsmith sheaths have been oiled and the machine has passed all of the alignment tests. I just made my first official set of cuts with the table sa...

Re: floating table inserts for V 500

Great input guys. As I read your responses, I am reminded of how naive some questions from newbies like myself can be. Now that I've used the table saw a few times, I realize that the need for a wider table is, at best, in my distant future. For me, 48" ought to be just fine, and I've got a set...

Re: floating table inserts for V 500

I am NEVER disappointed when I ask a question in this forum! I not only get the question answered, but i find out things I never knew I should ask. I do not yet know the "age" of my particular machine, but will find that out. The distinction between 9" and 10" blades was also rea...

floating table inserts for V 500

I'm a new SS owner having bought an old 500 machine with a handfull of incredible accessories. This forum has been fantastic at walking me through dust collection and workshop setup, and I"ve basically been building my space. At this point, my only disappointment is in the size of the tiny tabl...
