With a Tung Oil/Poly blend it should be pretty tough, after 5 coats the tung oil becomes water resistant and it might build enough film thickness for protection. Would this be easier if the quill was removed from the headstock. If nothing else works you could possibly use heat and then change the bearings before putting it back together.

Drilling an extension or floating table is quick and easy, then you can install nuts under it and you have a quick way to mount and remove the INCRA fence. They sell lamp augers that you feed through a hollow dead center.

I have the Porter Cable 890 series router kit (two bases). It is very tall and in the router table it sometimes hits the way tubes. It is rated good by the magazines. The Bosch 2.25 hp kit is rated very good but uses strange bushings if you ever want to use it hand held or with a jig.
