520 Miter Slots

Thanks to all who responded. Nick, thanks for the info about the bosses, extrusions and for the corresponding photos. Not trying to obtain an "engineers' nirvana", however I am very critical when it comes to alignment and accuracy. Thanks again! Cheers!

520 Miter slots

Yes, I did compensate for the give in the miter slots by making sure the miter bar that my micrometer is mounted to was consistantly tight to the same side of each slot every time I measured. Thanks for the replies Gampa and RKH. Although I have been on the forum recently (searching and finding tips for aligning my 520 better), I didn't realize Shopsmith was having such troubles. I hope things will get better for them.

Travelling Academy

Hello to all. I was wondering if anyone out there knows if the Travelling academy will be coming to the Massachusetts/New England area anytime soon? The academy has been to West Springfield, Mass., a couple of times since I purchased my 520, but unfortunately I wasn't able to attend either. I'm stil...

Left tilt/right tilt - no real difference in accuracy or safety IMHO. Accuracy is dependant upon taking the time to properly set your machine up and maintain it. Safety is a state of mind.
