Re: Template for relocating Shopsmith Retractable Caster Brackets when adding the larger
Okay you made me look. Let's say both catalog descriptions are partly right. I don't have a '53 catalog but I'll bet it is the same as the '52 entry which says 1/4" & 1/2" and so does a 2008 catalog. Although the '52 & 53' catalogs were for the Model 10's casters they use the same ...

Re: Reborn 10ER
I use a similar way of restoring the Way Tubes. The attached end uses a plumbing plug attached to a router chuck and the free end turns on two wheels. Sorry I do not have a picture of that setup.

Re: Pro Fence adjustment
If you are talking about the spacers that go between the table and the new fence rails than yes they need to be there.

Re: Issue with tool rest
If it is the post turning left & right in the carriage, have you locked the riser height with the large wing nut on the shaft with the raising lever (or wheel on newer models)? If the arm is turning on the post, lock it with the set screw (or locking lever on newer models).

Re: Arbors for model 500 versus 510
The change from the original (now 500) Mark V table system to the 510/505/520 plus the new Mark 7 (same as 520) needing different arbors is the lower guard for this system having a deeper throat requiring longer arbors. Any use of the lower guard for sawing or disk sanding makes these longer arbors ...

Re: Hello!! And Help!!!
The Shopsmith Mark 5 or V (depending on if it was made before or after 1980) motor runs at 3450 RPM. That is true for both the 3/4 and 1-1/8 HP motors. It would be difficult to find a lower RPM motor to replace it with. It has a longer shaft and very specific mounting points. The idea of changing pu...

Re: Did anyone else learn to use their Shopsmith with books?
It is true, there is more written information available about the Shopsmith than any other tool. Remember Shop Notes and Shopsmith Shavings? Kind of the Shopsmith Forum of their day. Some great Info in those too.

Re: Hello!! And Help!!!
Again, Thank You for your service to our Country. Our Military both past and present do not hear that enough. As for your questions Ed know his motors. Do NOT try to vary the speed of the AC motor as you suggest. As Chris said start turning some spindles or the like. I have a Mark V 520 (now a Mark ...

Re: 10E
If you do not have one already get a copy of the Owner's Manual. It will help you identify which parts you need. The Model 10E and 10ER was a work in progress with changes made to the parts from the first 10E shipped out in October 1947 to the last ones made in 1953. As an example, need a Carriage L...

Re: Extension under carpet
You have a tough situation so your best option would be a cord cover like the ones in the picture from Gene. Leave it over the carpet so it is easy to see it's condition. The cord cover should help keep it in place while reducing the trip hazard. I am a retired Firefighter and putting a power cord u...
