Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
US patents expire 20 years (or less, in certain cases) after their application date (not issuance date). Should SawStop's original patents not be expired by now? No doubt they have others, but those would almost certainly contain claims related to secondary/detail issues, which cannot extend the pr...

Re: Quill Freeplay
Really interesting video discussing how replacing bearings on an old Mark V and a NEW Mark 7 reduced quill runout (retracted) to zero. Maybe it is a worn bearing issue??

Re: Edge jointing cupping re-visited
The outfeed table obviously is immobile. I guess I'd set up the straight edge on the outfeed table and work on shimming the infeed table co planar. "We prefer to shim the outfeed table, because its adjustment range is very small, but if your jointer has a fixed outfeed table, you have no choice...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
"Safety" minded folks who 'think' everything can be made risk free are ignoring the purpose of those dangerous tools. They are also overlooking the necessary detail of the human operator being the usual cause as well as the victim of 'accidents'. 'Accidents' occur due to unanticipated eve...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
As for flipping the Shopsmith, has no one ever stalled the Shopsmith in table saw mode? Something will slip (belts) and the machine won't flip. As for how to make a blade brake work on the Shopsmith, we just need to think INSIDE the box. Rather than mounting the saw arbor directly to the headstock's...

Re: Stop Collars - the accessory I should have bought years ago
I put one stop collar on each leg of the main table and one on each leg of my extension table of my 520. It may be overkill to have a stop collar on each leg, but that's what I did. … With the stop collars now installed and adjusted it's just drop the main table in, drop the extension table in, tig...

It's probably all the extra shipping costs for the set screws.SteveMaryland wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:56 pm So $8.95 vs $4.95. Difference is one setscrew... Ouchie. Sorry Mr. Gale !
So I actually really made out, and should quit complaining, 'cause I sure won't be spending $4.00 for one setscrew !
Happily off to the bigbox I go...

Re: Stop Collars - the accessory I should have bought years ago
My recent purchase come with the set screws. I believe this is probably just an unfortunate oversight on their part. Agree with dusty -- call customer service. Did you order the same PN as Steve? I noticed there is a 501438 Stop Collar Assembly ($8.95) on line in addition to the the 501439 that Ste...

Re: Stop Collars - the accessory I should have bought years ago
I understand why we would want to use stop collars in pairs - to prevent cocking of the table due to slop - of which a Shopsmith has plenty. So I also recently bought a few extra stop collars (PN 501439) from Shopsmith. They arrived yesterday. To my chagrin, these collars are missing setscrews. How...

Doc, those links don't work for me but I looked and see it is the world's smallest ferro rod and the world's tiniest tinder. Cute. Probably not as useful as the useless toothpick, however.
