Today in the shop (yet another bird house)
Still having fun making bird houses out of PVC. This one is a bit odd but I like it. I like the # pattern on the back and front. Have the material cut for another sort of like this one but I have to get on to other projects today so maybe tomorrow??

This is a PVC they sell for trim work on a house. I get mine at Menard's but I'm sure that a lot of places sell it. Not cheap, about $20 for a 1 x 6 x 8'.

SO today's project was this birdhouse front:
This is what the end product will look like:
More then likely my last bird house this year. I've got a pretty good collection now for the spring.
I let the one with the bird shaped opening go to my brother so I might just see if I have the scraps to make another one of those, we will see.

Put the bird houses up this past week. Had a wren checking them out but haven't seen him bring in nest materials yet. With so many to choose from it might be difficult to pick.
I'm calling it birdhouse row.

Re: Today in the shop (yet another bird house)
Nice Ed- as I get older, I appreciate the birds more.
We have House Wrens, White Breasted Nuthatches, Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, House finch, mourning Doves, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Blue Jays, Robins, Eastern Towhees, Red bellied Woodpeckers, and a few more I haven't yet identified visiting our back yard.
Working with the PVC, how is the dust compared to soft wood ? I am using p100 face mask and have a dust collector with a 1um exit filter on it..but I haven't given thought to anything but wood dust.

Re: Today in the shop (yet another bird house)
The PVC is mostly chips so not so much a fine dust issue. The miter saw dust port gets some of it but most sticks to anything and everything around the saw so a shop vac to clean that up. I don't do any sanding so it is all just cutting to worry about.

As of this morning a wren has picked a box and bring in building materials. It will be interesting to see if he can attract a female to the house.

If your wrens are like ours she will somehow stuff about a bushel basket full of nest stuff into one of those houses...
