Foley strip sander
Given to me free. I didn't know Foley made one of these. Runs smooth as silk. Just have to rewire the lamp, cord got pinched at some time in the past.

A bucket of sanding strips and discs came with the tool. In the bottom were a few tools. The gauge has no name but says made in Germany. Anyone know anything about it?

Is there an Axel Foley in there, too? Ha ha... stuck on 80s entertainment trivia.
I only knew the Foley name from saw-toothing machines. I think they had a good reputation.

Re: Foley strip sander
that is an interesting gauge...Wonder what it measures? 9 units of something to the first five ticks, then one per tick?...Is there a caliper end on the gauge? Or maybe it is measuring pressure in metric units? Is there a Schrader valve on it?

Re: Foley strip sander
Isn't it just a machinist indicator gauge? Under the dial it has 1/1000, so thousandths of an inch.
Believe the ruler is just a general purpose ruler, possibly also for machinist work. A similar one online (link below), says it is for

Re: Foley strip sander
The gauge has 4 feet ground even with the bottom of the tip. It must measure flatness or protrusion. The ring on the inside of the dial rotates and there is a gauge on both sides. It's some kind of machinest gauge but there are no markings on the box either. It would be great in the jointer for knife height.

Re: Foley strip sander
That is a fairly old machine that should be of high quality. Foley and Belsaw were big competitors in the tool sharpening industry. Belsaw tended to be more meat and potatoes grade stuff decent and reasonably priced. Foley was prone to be a more high end line. They merged and operated as Foley-Belsaw for some time. I thought that too at first, but rereading the post I realized he was referring to the instrument with the dial gauge in the lower half of the photo.JPG wrote:The current version. https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-16 ... B00004T7T7
