I have one on my dedicated drill press,
Love it. Makes adjusting the table so much easier.

Power Pro headstock is not relevant.Billdit wrote:520 with power pro... what would # be?
This assists raising and lowering the table/carriage when in vertical mode.
It comes both 12 and 15 pound versions for the different sized table/carriage.

Re: Shopsmith Gas-Spring Table-Raiser
thanks guys for the feedback
I am going to wait for some kinda sale at SS and buy the power lift for table and a 3 handle quill.

Not sure I would buy one again. It mounts lower then I like and even with me reversing the lower bracket I still wish I had a few more inches of height.
The dedicated drill press I have set up is a powerpro with a 500 table. I use a drill press table most of the time which adds to my table height which also helps.... I find that for the most part I only use about 3 inches of travel.
Again this is just how I use mine, others will have other opinions. The 500 table is not all that heavy so again the spring action helps but would not feel that way if I had a 520 table I'm sure.

Re: Shopsmith Gas-Spring Table-Raiser
so the dedicated SS drill press is still new to me, so I am not sure what I will need in terms of table height, and I don't want to waste money on something I won't use.
I like the idea of the table support using a couple of extension tubes and wing. But it was too low for everyday use. While I never needed or wanted a support when I changed over my SS, I kinda like it.
So I added a couple of pipes that slid down the extension tubes, added a top brace, now my table support is at a good height.
With the 4 inch quill reach and my sacrifice board I always use on the table I think this will cover most of my drilling.
If not, then a rethink will be in order.

Shouldn't be too difficult to make an extension for the top (carriage) mounting plate to get the height into your comfort range.reible wrote:Not sure I would buy one again. It mounts lower then I like and even with me reversing the lower bracket I still wish I had a few more inches of height.

Re: Shopsmith Gas-Spring Table-Raiser
Here is a thread I did on the mounting of the table-raiser on a 500:
https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... er#p238900
The drill press table that I most often use now can be see in this thread:
https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... le#p248649
With these changes it works but like I said I still like another couple of inches of height but I don't feel like making additional changes at this time, another time perhaps??
