Bandsaw upgrade

Post by HopefulSSer »

Found this at the local Klingspor's but I'm sure Rockler or Woodcraft (or Amazon) would have the equivalent. Makes a HUGE difference in dust collection! The second photo shows the difference in collection area. I nipped the corners off the flange to tuck it up closer to the table. If I were to do it again I'd angle the flange a bit more horizontal to direct the pipe a bit more to the left of the table.

Edited to add: It was a whopping $6

Is that a 4” flange? Must do a much better job of catching the sawdust that otherwise falls through the slot on the bottom of the bandsaw.

Yep -- 4". There's a LOT more air moving through now than there was with the 2 1/2" port. I think my next mod will be to drill some holes in the throat plate.

I may have to try this. My 2 1/2" port is doing much when I resaw.

Correction: I may have to try this. My 2 1/2" port *isn't* doing much when I resaw.

How did you get the flat base of the port to seal across the ridge in the plastic bandsaw cover?

My solution for dust falling out the bottom of the bandsaw is duck tape stuck one piece on the inside and one on the outside sticking to itself it works surprisingly well.

It's got some flex so it sorta conforms to the cover. Beyond that I didn't really worry about it. I think any leakage there is insignificant. It doesn't cross the ridge

It doesn't look like you have a dust port attached. Does the bandsaw fill up with sawdust with the bottom sealed up?

Yes I do have the Shopsmith dust port, I've never had enough dust inside to be a problem I just vacuum out the saw when I change blades.
