The closest Mark V I have had to yours was from March 1982 that I restored and resold.

I found this listing of 10E and 10ER Serial Numbers in Everett Davis' Google Drive. He has a whole folder devoted to 10E and 10ER info. His thread is entitled "Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More", and is one of the first three threads in the Maintenance and Repair Forum. It and the other two "stickies" (because they always stay in the top three) are highly recommended for new and old members alike.

Based on the first model reportedly being number 1001 (not counting the models sold in Australia), yours may have been built about 15 months after that, or early 1949 (SWAG)

When was my Model 10E or 10ER made is a question that comes up every so often. Any answer to that question is a "best" guess. There are no known records of serial number production dates for the Model 10's like there is for a lot of the Mark 5/V's. A few owners have original sales receipts that came with there Model 10 which helps. The first 250 Model 10E Shopsmiths were made and crated just in time for shipping to the West Coast Montgomery Ward stores November 15, 1947. Some information about the Shopsmith tool has the date as October but Everett Davis, our Shopsmith Historian, has copies of Magna Engineering documents that shows the real original shipment as November 15, 1947. Orders soon exceeded Magna's ability to keep up production in only the California plant so an Eastern company was contracted to produce the Model 10E for the Eastern US. E-7853 should have been made in 1948 in the Eastern Plant.

Another clue as to when one was made is known dates of changes made to the Shopsmith. There were many changes made to the Shopsmith as it went from 10E to 10ER. Yes, those labeled as Model ER are actually a 10ER. One change was replacing the wood extension table with a metal extension table before October 1949. That change occurred on Shopsmiths in the 20000 Serial Number range.

As always we love sharing pictures of our Shopsmiths and seeing what others have too.

Just looked at mine out of curiosity.

51-001381

I guess this puts me in roughly Feb 1986 timeframe.

The 3 months Jan/Feb/Mar '86 not being assigned, but using the Apr start # 2291
and a total of 90 days (Jan-Mar) minus weekends (22 days) means they were producing on average 33 units per day. Does that seem reasonable?
