It's 1 inch wide. Am I missing a fitting or a part somewhere?
It sounds like you are missing the #2 Morse taper insert for the hole in the tail stock. Look at the tail stock in the picture. It should look like that. The tail stock arbor Ed mentioned will fit in the tail stock.

The Morse taper insert is part of the tail stock as sold so if you are missing it you will probably have to contact one of the 10ER eBay guys directly since that part almost never shows up om eBay. I don't have an extra one but I think I can put you in contact with someone who might.

I have several of these but they are in use so I can't help you with one but perhaps someone else has an extra???

I'd look through your "stuff" for this:

And in the name of completeness, here is a side view of the drill chuck on the arbor mounted in the tailstock. :)

Does anyone know what "acoutrimonts" means? HAHA. you don't hear such large words being used here that often.

Are you trying to spell "accoutrements"?

I guess you would if you looked it up. BTW, it is 'accoutrements'.

There is a floating center and nut on EBay, comes with a drive spur and a live center.

A bit 'pricey'. They are not that scarce. The live center is brand ?. The spur center looks correct vintage.
