Assuming that the Serial Numbers began with 400001 for production units this would be a fairly close approximation for a Serial Number/Production Date list for the Mark VII.

Fiscal Year Starting S/N
1963-1964 400001
1964-1965 403077
1965-1966 405895
1966-1967 408609
1967-1968 409965
1968-1969 410482

Again sales dates and production dates would be fairly close if the units were made as orders came in.

Nice work finding these for the Mark VII.

JPG had indicated he bought his in the Spring of 1963 ordering from Montgomery Ward and received it in two weeks of order.

I now am wondering if it was made for MW who were the first to sell it to consumers in Spring 1963 and Shopsmith after liquidation of a portion of Mark V inventories began selling it in October 1963.

I am always looking for documentation to augment what we know.

With the help of others we’ve found and preserved some Dealers Manuals but nothing new enough to include dated Mark VII materials, service bulletins etc within them. Equally only some material for the 10E/10ER lines.

I know that I have an original magazine somewhere in which they introduce the Mark VII. I will have to unbox a bunch of things to scan it and share what it has.

While I did reply to this separately just below the original entry, I have located a Mark VII Introduction Ad from Magna American Corporation that I did scan from Popular Science December 1963

Wasn't that JPG's Goldie Mark 5?

With the introduction of the Mark VII in October 1963 that makes the list I posted above fairly close to estimating when Mark VII's were made. At least Fiscal Year by Fiscal Year.

YES.

This thread jumps around both M5 and MVII. Not always easy to tell which is being discussed in a given post.

I did a little searching to see what was the last reference to the Mark VII I could find. I came across this ad from November 1968.

Rather sad that the ad copy is almost identical to the first ads. I looks like Magna was just not serious about selling the Shopsmith. Like their heart was not in it.
