When I was using my optical tachometer the other day it seemed a little flaky and I traced it down to the battery connection.

It uses a 9 volt battery and the one connector was not getting a nice tight fit on the battery post. So I replaced the clip with a new one but since I had it open to work on I thought I would post a picture of what it looks like inside.

Interesting, it looks like a crystal at the bottom of the IC. We used them in HAM radio equipment years ago to set frequencies.
