The two tapped holes in the miter slot are not blind, they are for the two forward trunnion mounting bolts. I have an old (cast iron table) bandsaw. there is a bit of play in the upper wheel. How do I get it off to either change or grease the bearing?

You should find a clip that needs to be removed.
