Question: is there an attachment or simple way to attach the Jacobs chuck or other attachments to the tailstock?
I am turning cups and bowls and would like to drill into the spinning wood with a forstner bit fastened in the stationary Jacobs chuck.

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
Some progress this week: Added a flip cover to the "on" portion of the on/off switch for safety and gave it a matching wood cover. 20220821_223452.jpg Also installed the tachometer in the headstock, and made a box for the led display. The sensor is having some issues but I think a new magn...

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
Even if it is this is not a problem since the Gauge Collar can hold the front bearing in place. The later type of Guage Collar is shown below for reference. The original Gauge Collar will not hold the front bearing in place. Both bearings are seated correctly, i think the problem was that the guage...

Re: Selling old shop smith: seeking help on how much and where
There are 3 Mark 5s for sale in central Wisconsin right now. The posted prices range from $800 to $200 and they have all been available for several weeks. I purchased an older 10E that was very rusty and missing accessories for $75 last month so it really does depend on your location, the current su...

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
Question about the jitters  Overall the machine is running very smooth, but i have noticed a fair amount of vibration when doing fine work on the lathe. To be clear i am not turning anything tiny like pens, but i have been making Harry Potter wands out of air dried cherry, which is a lot o...

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
:) Hi Russ, question for you or anyone else that may know - I had to go in and tighten the lock screw on the rear bearing ring that i missed during assembly. Now that i am putting things back together i noticed there is about 3/8" of play in the arbor shaft where it slides forward and back bef...

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
Joel, an autotransformer won’t change the speed of an AC induction motor, but it may well apply a voltage that will “release the magic smoke”. Which voltage could be either higher or lower than the rated voltage. Induction-motor speed is primarily a function of the AC line frequency, not the voltag...

Re: I Just Purchased 10E Number 143
Hi Joel, Looks like things are coming along nicely. Can you tell me where you got the RPM display and how exactly it works/hooks up? Hi Darren, and thanks. I got the rpm sensor from Amazon. This one is barebones and a little tricky to hook up, but basically there is a small magnet i am going to glu...
