Re: Installing 505/10/20 Crank on 500 table lift
I did the alteration using the 9/16" socket. Took literally 38 seconds to make the change. I posted a video of me making the alteration on the Facebook Shopsmith Owners page. Could absolutely NOT be easier.

Re: 60's vintage Mark 7
I can't even begin to tell you how many times over the years I have "fixed" something simply by taking it apart and putting it back together. Sometimes I think the machines just want to know that we care enough to bother.

I did it. Thanks for the tip about using the socket. It took 39 seconds to make the change.

Re: Scary stuff...
I simply don't watch those kind of programs. A simple thing to remember is to never get advice from someone who knows less than you already know. But But is that not EVERYONE else? :D It's certainly everybody in Lowe's, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware. I even know where the stuff in their own store is...

Re: Handwheel for Mark V?
Thanks. I like the simplicity of the approach using the 3/8" drive socket. Might give it a shot. But, not wild about the 7/8" gap between the table and the tubes in drill press mode. My usual approach is to assume the engineers knew what they were doing when they designed any given object....

Handwheel for Mark V?
I see lots of photos of Shopsmiths with a handwheel instead of the original levers, particularly for raising and lowering the table. Can an old Mark V model 500 be retrofitted with handwheels w/o actually having to spend the big bucks to convert it to a 510 or 520?

Re: Trouble with speed adjustment
Well, I finally have my Mk V/500 back in operation. Ended up replacing the control sheaves and the speed adjustment mechanism as well as both belts. It still didn't want to go slow but after taking it apart and putting it back together about 7 times, it's finally behaving right. Just in time as yest...

Re: Trouble with speed adjustment
Good to hear. And, although I placed the order over the weekend, I got a notice today that it has already shipped! Yay!garys wrote: I think you made the right choice by ordering a complete quadrant assembly rather than just replacing one gear.
