Re: Mark V chuck spinning off
Welcome to the forum! I think 'spinning off' means the chuck unthreading itself from the threaded adapter, so if that's wrong please clarify exactly what is separating. Most chucks have a setscrew, and the pictures you linked to on Amazon appear to show a hole for one.(?) It would also be a good ide...

Re: Mike Young
I don't recall any posts by Mike. Others have linked in some of his videos, and I'd say that some of the feedback certainly invited response.stephen_a._draper wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:20 pm Does anyone know the author name on this forum to view the posts made my Mike Young?

Re: Communication error
Comm error would likely refer to the serial interface (RS-232 I think) between the controller and the front panel. Do you see any performance issues, or does the display drop out or freeze intermittently, system not respond to commands (touches), anything like that? Do you still have your Gen 1 fron...

Re: Mark V maximum idler bearing RPM
To replace the bearing only you would first have to find the correct bearing, press the old one off the shaft and press the new one on. The Idler Shaft with the bearing(s) installed has always been listed/sold as an assembly... I've never seen a bad idler bearing of the 'early style' so have never ...

Re: Mark 7 120 v 240
I run mine on 230 and have a short adapter to convert it to 120 for portability. They run well either way. If you already have or need 230V outlets in your shop I would use them, otherwise 120 seems fine.

Re: Mark V maximum idler bearing RPM
The Idler spins approximately 1.6X faster than the main spindles, which nominally go up to 5200 RPM. But in another thread it's been shown that machines typically exceed the maximum speed listed and the amount they exceed it by seems to vary widely. Personally, I'd say 10K RPM would be a reasonable ...

Re: 10ER Speed Changer Retaining Ring Source
Standard external snap rings, which this appears to be, are sized based on shaft diameter. Unless you have a fit problem or a non-standard groove, shaft diameter is the only thing you have to measure. So for example a 5/8" snap ring aka SH-62, is referred to as a 5/8' snap ring even though no d...

Re: Help selling a 10 ER
I'm going to tell you what you probably don't want to hear. Southern Cal is a buyers market on used Shopsmith equipment and has been for a long time. And $225 for a used Model 10 with no speed changer is a comparatively high price. IIWM I'd lower the price and see if that generates interest. Your ma...

Re: Emerson 1 1/8 hp start switch
I don't know where you can get just a replacement start switch. Most Shopsmith start switch problems don't require replacement. The motors tend to gather a lot of sawdust that can interfere with the mechanical operation of the switch, in this case it just needs to be cleaned out. Switch contacts can...

Re: need help, what is thI s
They make a 1/2" router chuck and a 1/4" router chuck. I use a sleeve from from another router chuck for 1/4" bits. I'm not positive that it's all that secure in the Shopsmith 1/2" chuck. I think I'd prefer a collet type chuck for both sizes. I don't think I would trust a sleeve...
